In a city like Mumbai that is a melting pot of restaurants and bars catering to every type of world cuisine, it should come as no surprise that the very waters that embrace it should also serve as a perfect setting for a hospitality project. Conceived as a joint venture between MBPT and a private company owned by Shripriya Dalmia Thirani, comes the brand new venture of ‘floatels’ or floating restaurants – NEVERLAND – a triple deck yacht that serves as the perfect destination for a celebration, private party, or dining out in the middle of the sea.

Designed as a luxury dining space, the interior design of the 7800 square feet yacht with two bars on both the open decks, is done entirely by Sumessh Menon and his team. With a capacity of 400 people, the yacht or ‘floatel’ is well equipped with plush seating, a fully stocked stunning bar, outdoor high seating as well as cleverly design storage spaces for safety equipment, life jackets, etc. all incorporated into the interior design of the space.
Keeping in line with the client’s brief, the space was conceived as a dreamy, luxe party space but at the same time have a relaxed and carefree vibe without going overboard (pun unintended) adhering to several factors like wind pressure, weather conditions, and wear and tear, selection of fabrics, materials, and even furniture design was given a lot of thought and researched upon intensely.
Weight was a major challenge in the case of designing the furniture and hence keeping the layout functional and aesthetically well designed while at the same time within the weightage constraints was an intense design workout for us. Finally, understanding the constant motion of the yacht and therein designing window sizes, tabletops, even table edges with a slightly raised edge all were done in accordance with the proper functioning of the yacht.
