Flying Saucer Rooftop Bar & Restaurant Interiors

Andheri (W), Mumbai

Area : 9000 sq. ft.

Perched on the second floor of a commercial building in Andheri West, the avant-garde rooftop restaurant—Flying Saucer—was a visionary creation by Sumessh Menon Associates. Encompassing an expansive 9000-square-foot space, it was meticulously transformed into an eclectic and immersive haven of design brilliance. Every nook and corner exuded sophistication, with plush seating arrangements and meticulously curated interior design styles enhancing the ambiance.

While the existing framework—such as the raised bar, flooring, and rooftop layout—was artfully repurposed, the meticulous design execution completely reimagined the space. The rooftop restaurant architecture was elevated with a dynamic interplay of textures, patterns, and vibrant hues. The rooftop lighting design was accentuated through striking installations that enveloped the entire space in an ethereal glow. A significant portion of the original flooring was replaced with bespoke monochrome printed tiles, arranged in angular carpet formats, juxtaposed with sections of floral mosaic tiles that brought an artistic flourish to the decor and themes.

Ceiling Design & Statement Lighting

The main restaurant interiors featured a majestic barrel vault ceiling adorned with a coffered wooden pattern, while the bar area flaunted an exquisite layered flute-patterned ceiling in a sophisticated grey shade. Grand 3.5-ft diameter bell lights and mesmerizing multi-layer ring lights—reminiscent of actual flying saucers—suspended from above, setting the tone for the surreal experience.

Bar & Back Bar – A Work of Art

The bar itself was a masterpiece of design ingenuity. The apron was reinvented with an ornate backlit FRP motif trellis, framed by vibrant artwork that infused color and drama. The back bar was an artful symphony of MS arches, mirrors, and a bold zebra print, flanked by botanical artwork.
The terrace bar, too, was an ode to sculptural beauty, featuring a bas-relief apron depicting classical nude human figures a striking contrast against the deep olive green trellised countertop. The backlit glass shelves enhanced the bottle display, lending a theatrical edge to the overall aesthetic. Service stations were tactfully repurposed, seamlessly integrated with stud detailing to amplify their visual appeal.

Exquisite Facade & Statement Features

The rooftop restaurant plan was further refined with an opulent wooden façade, intricately hand-carved to exude grandeur. Soft lilac-hued velvet drapes were introduced to amplify the plush ambiance, while the columns near the façade were enriched with elegant moldings.

Bespoke Seating & Vibrant Upholstery

A secluded private dining room (PDR) on the lower level featured a quirky neon artwork, adding a touch of contemporary eclecticism. The dining tables and chairs for the restaurant were adorned with lively floral upholstery to infuse vibrancy. Even the wooden furniture polish received an artistic overhaul, with unexpected splashes of color lending an element of whimsy. The high round tabletops were finished with an avant-garde wolf-back printed glass top, while the lounge area tables were luxuriously topped with stone.
The elevated bar was enveloped by a custom MS and mirror railing, forming a seamless visual connection across the space. Existing chairs were reupholstered in peppy patterns, complemented by studded detailing to reinforce the chic aesthetic.

Cabanas & Biophilic Design

The rooftop restaurant architecture was further enriched with striking cabanas, intricately crafted in MS round and square cage-like formations, each varying in height for a dynamic silhouette. Biophilic elements were seamlessly woven into the design, with lush greenery and assorted blown glass pendant lights enhancing the enchanting rooftop ambiance. The walls on the rooftop became a canvas for abstract artwork in monochromatic grey tones, intertwined with wire mesh arches and FRP columns at the entrance. The DJ console, positioned against this artistic expanse, was seamlessly blended into the immersive design narrative.

DJ Pavilion & Ultra-Modern Washroom Passage

The central lounge space was anchored by an elongated two-sided sofa seating, crowned with custom pole lights that radiated ambient illumination. The elevated DJ pavilion was nothing short of a showstopper, featuring an assortment of wooden bolsters with a bronze mirror back, finished in an arresting bright red. Suspended neon signage and a sleek overhead ceiling installation completed the futuristic aesthetic.
The washroom passage was another design marvel, illuminated by a series of neon lights that amplified its edgy appeal. The entrance doors were adorned with intricate neon artwork, enhanced by UV lights for a dramatic visual effect.

Grand Stairway & Smoking Lounge

The main entrance stairway, leading to both floors, was entirely reimagined as a trippy modern artwork bathed in UV lighting (blue, pink, and white hues)—a true visual spectacle. The smoking area was discreetly nestled into a stylish cubicle, accentuated by a bold zebra artwork against a pink backdrop. The glass cubicle was outlined with sleek profile lighting on the entrance, heightening its contemporary allure.
