Yazu at The Dome, Indore

Asian ethos in all its
subtle glory
On a verdant parcel of land in Indore stood a vacant dome. Originally meant to be a Mediterranean-themed space, SMA was commissioned to change the narrative of this isolated structure, and build the ultimate Pan-Asian fine dining restaurant. Yazu at The Dome has the vibe of a contemporary Japanese space but none of the empty gimmick. A design influenced by the subtle, restrained ethos of Asian culture, celebrated in and through a thoughtful, locally-sourced material palette.

Perfect canvas for Asian spreads

A calm, intimate energy fills the space owing to the warmth of the teakwood, brilliance of the fibre-based light fixtures, and the textural details that engulf the space. Every striking design element at the resto-pub was crafted and built on-site. From the printed glass tables to the concrete-cast outdoor tables with marble and glass inlays, patrons of Yazu enjoy their delectable spread over a captivating canvas.

Spiral into blissful oblivion

Without a doubt, the indoor bar area best captures the spirit of the design. The whirlwind pattern made from exposed yet refined plywood pulls you into the central space and compels you to take a seat. Overhead, the sprawling Spiral of Light, a 18-feet-long paper light installation by the famed artist-architect Ankon Mitra, floats as an imposing yet gentle cloud of illumination. This monochromatic, steeped-in-wood vibe is the perfect setting for Yazu’s entrees.
