The third and largest outpost of the resto-bar in Kamala Mills is packed with fun design elements helmed by Sumessh Menon.
When 145 first opened at Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, bang opposite LIV, we saw a sudden shift of energy. Weekends would see the place buzzing with good music and patrons who danced the night away. The brand has now expanded and opened its third and largest outlet in the party precinct of Mumbai, at Kamala Mills. Aptly named 145 The Mill, the new outpost of the bar has been designed by Sumessh Menon. “145 has always been about an energetic and upbeat restaurant and bar space and we continued with a similar vibe. The brand wanted to create a high-energy space with stylish yet casual interiors that cater to a crowd between the age group of 25 to 40,” explains Menon.
The 145 Cafe Bar design by Sumessh Menon showcases an exceptional fusion of creativity and functionality, setting a new benchmark in restaurant interior design ideas. Known for his innovative approach, Menon has masterfully crafted a space that not only meets but exceeds the expectations for top restaurant interiors.
Sofa, So Good
At 145 The Mill, you are welcomed by a large 4,000-square-foot space, generously apportioned into cosy nooks, long sofa seats, arched love seats, and high table seating. There is an island bar which divides the restaurant into a high energy space, a raised pool table area and even an interactive library space. “Varied seating styles add to the charm of the space, including digital printed glass table tops, drum-shaped high tables, custom upholstered chairs, and of course, the remarkable custom disc lamps that have multiple tilted discs strung together as a visually striking installation,” adds Menon.
Visually Striking Interiors
Another striking element is the custom ‘145’ moulded railing created in concrete and WPC placed strategically within the space that serves as a partition and a standing space. Various designer loop-lights and disc light concepts have been incorporated into the restaurant interiors. For the Kamala Mills outpost, Menon has experimented with various concepts that haven’t been used before at their other outposts like glass block flooring and entirely customised tiles with printed faces in the washroom. The ceiling is treated for acoustic as well as an aesthetic function such that it looks less busy.

Kinetic Installation
A noteworthy design element that adds the mill element to space is a stunning kinetic fan and gear installation set up on an entire wall of one of the two smoking lounges, complete with a colour pattern that further enhances the installation when it is in motion. This is a 3D cladding used on the 70 feet long façade design is, in fact, an abstract map of the surrounding mill area. The resto-bar gets its unique charm courtesy the wall art. “For the 60 feet long abstract collage art mural done indoors, the artists have incorporated a lot of layers and textures depicting a fresh and playful modern abstract art along with a symbolic horse (which is a part of 145’s logo) lending the perfect blend of art and play into this space,” explains Menon.

The food menu remains largely similar but adds a special section that features healthy bar bites and small plates. From the bar menu the Cucumber and Basil, Berry and Citrus Cloves gin and tonic come highly recommended.
